Instagram Part 2

A "Sky" Photo seems the most popular for instagram users. Here are some of my favorite Sky Photos that I have taken. As you can see they are never just sky photos. I find plain images with no focal point less interesting. Which I suppose would be my first tip. The first Photo is of the Light Art Installation at the Los Angeles County Art Museum. The second is at the Huntington Library as seen through the large Glass Dome in the Courtyard.

These photos depict trees during a Sunset, which is a great time to take photos, I love the color change in the sky and depending on directing and time the sky varies in color! The Photo above shows the Sky in Blue and Purple Tones.
The Photo below shows the Sky in hues of Blue, Green and Yellow. The Trees also show how the Color of the Sky can be a greater focal point against Black Silhouettes.

The last Tip when it comes to Sky Photos that I  use Clouds in different ways The Rose Bowl Photo has very light clouds in the background and although I wanted the Rose Bowl in the shot, the majority are of the clouds. The Second Photo I wanted the clouds to be in the corner instead of the majority of the shot that way they look light and soft against the dark boarder.
The last is a photo that uses to of my techniques: Clouds and Tree Silhouettes. As you can see I still left a corner for the viewer to see the sky and the lightness of the clouds.

Vintage Owl Flying Away

When I first started my Etsy Store last summer I knew that when I saw this sweet vintage owl pennant charm that I needed to have it for my store and I am so happy that it has been purchased! While many of the owl pendants in Etsy all look the same, I never came across one that looked like this cute little guy!

Instagram Part 1

As a regular instagram user I have been asked about my techniques while taking photos. Since I pride myself on my photos I thought I would write a series of blog posts about my techniques, photo issues and write in depth about some of my favorite photos.

First I thought I would write about the things I am not a fan of with regards to the Social Media Photo App:
  • Hashtags are quite annoying and make any photo instantly tacky in my eyes. While I understand that many photos are being entered in competition, added to a photo galleries I will also immediately dislike any photo with 5-10+ Hashtags.
  • Personal photographs, while most of my photos are a part of my personal life, I really don't need photo's of Stranger's Friends on my feed. If someone whats their personal photographs to have an instagram filter, just use the app on airplane mode and no one will ever have to see these personal images.
  • Photos that were not taken by the Users; It's copyright infringement to use someone's photo/work without their permission. It's illegal. But if one must, please credit them!
  •  Spam, including the users that constantly ask to be followed. There is a big difference from having instagram fans and begging for followers.
  • Unfortunately there are some people that are constantly negative an like any social media outlet there are people that have the habit of leaving rude comments in photos. I have had my share, and I appreciate instagram's speediness in deleting those comments and users.
